On this day, Sir Thomas More, a devout Christian and steadfast defender of his faith, was executed in England. More was a prominent lawyer, philosopher, and statesman who served as the Lord Chancellor to King Henry VIII. When King Henry VIII broke away from the Roman Catholic Church to declare himself the Supreme Head of the Church of England, More refused to support this decision. His unwavering faith and loyalty to the teachings of the Catholic Church led to his arrest and eventual execution.

Thomas More’s story is a powerful reminder to stand up for our faith, even when faced with great challenges. His dedication to God’s truth reflects the words of Jesus in Matthew 10:32-33 (CEB): “Therefore, everyone who acknowledges me before people, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven. But everyone who denies me before people, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.”

More’s legacy also teaches us the value of integrity and conscience. As Proverbs 3:5-6 (CEB) advises, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; don’t rely on your own intelligence. Know him in all your paths, and he will keep your ways straight.” More trusted in God and followed his conscience, showing us the importance of aligning our actions with our faith and trusting God to guide our steps. His courage and faithfulness continue to inspire Christians around the world to stand firm in their beliefs.

πŸ™ Let’s honor his memory by reflecting on our own faith and commitment to God’s truth.
